Is My Pool Leaking or Just Evaporating?

By Las Vegas Pool Leaks
July 18, 2026
Backyard swimming pool in the Las Vegas Valley

Las Vegas heat, wind, intense sun, and low humidity can pull a noticeable amount of water from a pool. The useful question is whether the pool is dropping faster than the water beside it.

Try a simple bucket test

  1. Fill a bucket with pool water.
  2. Place it on a pool step so the surrounding water supports it.
  3. Mark the water level inside the bucket and the pool level outside it.
  4. Compare both marks after about 24 hours.

If the pool level falls farther than the water inside the bucket, a leak may be contributing to the loss.

When to schedule leak detection

Call when the water loss continues, the autofill runs unusually often, or you notice wet soil, air in the system, or water around the equipment pad. Professional pool leak detection can test the plumbing, shell, skimmers, lights, and equipment separately.
